First - the service and staff are absolutely GREAT! I have NEVER had as nice service as we get at Twisters. Second - the FOOD is WONDERFUL! My family and I eat here at LEAST once a week. From the HUGE Chicken Fried Steaks to the Mountain of Nachos or All-American Monster Hamburgers, if you leave hungry - it's your own fault! THAT SAID - they have a NEW MENU - & some of the food is now over the $10 limit for the one $ rating. IT IS STILL WORTH IT, but I believe in full disclosure. And you can order until 11pm on Fridays & Saturdays! Third - the Friday night DJ - he's fun & keeps the karaoke crowd engaged (even though the music gets a LITTLE loud sometimes), and let's as many people sing as he can - & they do! Okay - WE do - it's kind of fun sometimes! :-) They are accommodating to parties and, until about 10pm, it's a GREAT place for families, too! After 10, they still let you bring in your children, but it's more an adult atmosphere.

My second visit was better than my first. :) Tracy was a great waitress; the food was still good, but the fries were still questionable. Great drink specials!

We went to Twisters last night with a large party. I ordered the Flying Monkey (only 4 beers on tap) and the soft tacos. We also had the chips, salsa, and queso. Salsa had great flavor and was spicy, but not light your mouth on fire spicy. We had Cori as a waitress and she was friendly and attentive. I was worried about 2 soft tacos filling me up, but they were huge! Taco meat was good and I got the queso on top as well. Great time. The ONLY reason why they didn't get 5 stars was the selection of beer on tap. I didn't ask about the bottle selection, but after reading the rest of the reviews, that sounds like where the selection is. We will definitely be back!

We found Twisters on Yelp after attending a Yelp Elite Event near Bonner Springs, about 20 miles east of our home in Lawrence, Kansas. I saw photos of their tacos and they looked better than any we have tried in Lawrence, so we decided to give them a go. Twisters sits in the corner of a strip mall just off Interstate 70. For a Sunday night, they were rather busy with only a few open tables. The atmosphere is very casual with groups of friends, couples, and families scattered about. For example, there was a couple at the table next to us with a 10-year old boy who had ranch dressing accidentally dropped on his head by a passing server (I hope his meal was comped!). TVs abound with sports playing around the large room and sports memorabilia dotting the walls, from football jerseys to posters. The kitchen sits behind the busy bar where the friendly servers scramble back and forth while serving hungry customers. The menu is eclectic, from Mexican fare (tacos, enchiladas, nachos) to burgers to meatloaf and sandwiches. I ordered a Dos Equis Amber draft on special for $2, some beef tacos ($2.25 each), and cheese and onion enchiladas (also $2.25 each). The taco shells were obviously deep fried in-house, stuffed with ground beef, lettuce, plenty of cheese, and diced tomatoes complimented with what appeared to be store bought salsa. They were the best tacos I have eaten since moving from Kansas City last year (Rancho Grande) minus the guacamole (or avocado), hence my only complaint ... there was no guacamole available on the menu as either an appetizer or a side. The enchiladas were also very good with plenty of cheese and a tasty red sauce with hints of what seemed to be mole (a Mexican savory chocolate sauce). The tacos and enchiladas were better than any I have eaten at any of the dozen or so Mexican restaurants we have tried since moving to Lawrence last year and this from a bar and grill! My wife ordered the half-pound (8 oz) Mushroom and Swiss Hamburger with fresh onion rings. The patty appeared smaller than 8 ounces and was not handmade, probably frozen from Sam's Club, Cisco, or another restaurant supply chain. The bun was fresh, but the burger bland. The onion rings were made with fresh onion and deep fried, piping hot and missing only a bit of seasoning. I would return for the tacos and enchiladas, but would pass on the burgers, trying the meatloaf instead, hopefully being homemade and not "Stoufer's" or some other frozen variety. CombatCritic Gives Twisters Grill and Bar 7 Out of 10 Bombs (for the tacos and enchiladas) and 6 Out of 10 Bombs Overall (for VALUE) ... Bombs Are GOOD!

Best tacos in town. The waitstaff and kitchen staff are awesome. The DJ is the best!!! I am here quite often and they treat everyone like gold!!! I have had almost everything on the menu and it is all great food. The service is outstanding and the drinks are fab!!! I do take out about 2 times a week. They have great specials too!

I loved this place. Wish I lived near by. The crew is friendly and attentive. I wouldn't recommend the grill, it was just okay and typical bar fare. I will definitely stop in when I'm in the area.

Three strikes your out. I've been coming to Twisters for ten years and have always enjoyed the food and great company. This is the third time in a row where I had terrible service and cold food and I can no longer hold back my complaint. The seat yourself sign was up when we arrived a party if 13, so after we did seat ourselves in a 3/4 empty restaurant we waited more than 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We finally went up to the bar to get our own drinks. By the time the waitress came in to take our drink order we were ready for a second drink, and by the time that drink came out we once again had gone to the bar to order our drinks. We had 3 orders of Twister dip a usual favorite we had to send all 3 orders back because they were cold. Although the food came out quickly it was cold everything from the tacos, the nachos and the chicken strips, and we didn't see the waitress again until she brought out the checks and by this time we were too fed up to bother with the complaints. $25 meal usually a steal, thankfully we had a good group of understanding people there some of which it was their first time and undoubtedly the last time they visit Twisters. All I can say is This place had gone way down hill in the past year.

The chili cheese hotdog was great. The service, our waitress, Sherry, was great. The drinks were good and the food was a good deal for the money.

Beef Tacos were pretty tasty. They had a nice crunch to them. The rice was commented on and the verdict was tasty. Did not personally taste it. Potato Skins were pretty bland. Ended up salting them and dipping them in Ranch Dressing. That helped a lot. Fried Pickles were dreamy. Pickle spears even. Very good. Grilled Buffalo sandwich was pretty much disgusting. Really thin chicken grilled and then drowned in straight up hot sauce... not basted prior to... or during the grill process... but dumped on right before it is served. Soaked through the bun and was an awful mess. Co-diner said tenderloin sandwich was good. Malibu Rum and Coke for 2 bucks... no complaints there. Pretty alright depending on what you order.

I've been here several times and the place has been consistent. The food is good the staff has been nice and helpful. Take advantage of the daily specials the wings and tacos are good and anytime there's a $2.00 longneck that's a good thing.

Great Bar food, super fun environment, good prices,& daily specials!!! The most popular item on the menu has to be the deep fried tacos!

Twisters.... What a great name for a strip mall restaurant and bar. We had to venture over to Bonner Springs for a social engagement so I Yelped for a place to eat and Twisters is what we got. A plain, no frills experience with excellent tacos. The beer selection is adequate but not extensive. However the place was PACKED! They must serve other good grub too... Overall, I likde it. The bar staff was positively friendly and didn't berate me for wearing Mizzou gear at a Kansas bar. Thumbs up, Twisters!

Twisters has really good bar food. We (party of 8) went there today for lunch. Our server, Mary, was prompt, personable, & attentive. We had all the shenanigans associated with a large party (multiple checks, everyone isn't ready with their order at the same time, etc.) and Mary was very accommodating and friendly. The food came out at the same time too which is sometimes a challenge even at a much more high end establishment. I judge restaurants by their onion rings (among other things). If onion rings are on the menu and they're the awful frozen mass produced things that most restaurants serve these days I'm pretty disappointed. Twisters onion rings are hand battered, flaky, & perfectly fried. Yum I also tried the jalapeno poppers which were a little more mainstream but tasty just the same. I also had the nachos (half price on Sundays). They were okay but were not terribly impressive. I should have had the enchiladas The bathrooms are immaculately clean (an odd thing to note but if I go into a restaurant and the bathrooms are filthy I assume the kitchen is as well). My only critique would be that the only place for large groups is in the game room and we had to contend with some unruly, unsupervised kids. All in all a good experience though - I'll be back!

Word had circulated that Twisters in Bonner had the best tacos in the area. Deep fried from what I was hearing. Word of mouth and satisfied customers are the best advertising a place can have. The decor is very plain, but clean. We were welcomed right away and seated. For a bar at the 5 o'clock after-work hour, it was surprisingly quiet, even though the place was almost full. Everyone was stuffing their face! Order was placed for the tacos, of course, but I was feeling like a pig and wanted to try everything at once. Potato skin appetizers and a tenderloin were added. $2 draw beers were offered and accepted. The tacos were very crispy and hot, packed with more taco meat that you normally see, loaded with plenty of lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes. Very tasty! The P skins were cut in thick strip form loaded with cheese and bacon, with a sour cream dip. Would have liked to seen scallions and more toppings on these bad boys, but they were ok as they were. Probably not a re order on the next trip. The pleasing find for me here was the Tenderloin. I consider myself a warrior in the search for the perfect tenderloin in the numerous places that I visit. And as I have reviewed in the past, some disappoint and some triumph. I would like to announce that we have a new King in the Tenderloin Challenge. This sandwich was not a large as some that resemble elephant ears, but was about and inch thick without the breading and was very juicy and hot. Trimmings and toasted bun set me into the stratosphere with my new found love. ( I get really excited about good pork products) Service was top notch, and all the staff came by at one time or another to see if we needed anything. The bill was considerably smaller than I expected for the amount of food that we sampled. Will definitely be returning to Twisters to sample some of their other offerings, and pray that my second tenderloin will be as spectacular as the first. Definately not a fancy place, but for the simple diner looking for a good meal and a mug of suds, it fills the bill nicely!

I met up with a few friends for bingo trivia night last Wednesday. I had a little bit of everything off their menu. Nachos were good, with both a doctored cheese sauce and shredded cheese. Chili cheese fries came completely smothered, just like I like 'em. Corn nuggets (sweet, cheesy corn in a battered ball) were good. The sopapillas were good and came with six pieces. Soft tacos were $2 that night, and I ordered a beef one. It was on a larger tortilla, so it was a pretty big taco, and pretty good for a bar. Bingo trivia was entertaining. They played rounds of '90s music, rock, then country. Let's just say, I progressively sucked as the night went on. Our server was probably drunk, but she was nice enough. One thing that really irritated me was that she took both my and my friend's cups back to refill with iced tea, then came back and gave us each the wrong cups. We only knew this because she was wearing lipstick and the (black) straw that I got back was coated in lipstick prints. The dumb thing is that she didn't have a lemon on her cup (while mine did), but the server had put one on it when she brought it back. Ugh. All in all, it was everything you'd expect from a neighborhood bar. Good friends, decent food, drunk server...

Their chicken taco special on Tuesday's and Thursday's are the best. All white meat chicken and very fresh ingredients.

I'm giving this place 4 stars not because the food is to die for but because it has some great bar food and drinks for great prices. They have your typical bar food and then they also serve Mexican. I go for the deep fried beef taco's. nachos with beef and chicken wings with fries and finish off with sopapillas They have daily food and drink specials that can't be beat along with a great half price apps daily from 3-6. Food comes out quick and it's family friendly until 10.
